He is long and skinny. He got 4 more shots. The experience was similar to last time, although I think every time he gets shots, it gets harder and harder. He is becoming more mobile and actually had to be held down this time. Not fun. But, we love our pediatrician and his nurses, so I always like going and seeing them. Oh, and the pediatrician said P has no teeth in site and to probably expect them around 7 months.
He was CRAZY at the appointment. I don't know if it's the fact that Preston is "all boy" or that he took a 2 hour nap before we got there, but he was full of energy. Here are some pics I took on my phone when we were waiting on the doctor.
He completely destroyed the sheet of paper on the exam table. Then kept trying to roll over and we almost lost him when he tried to flip right off of the table. Then we were holding him to avoid a fall off of the table, and he wanted to jump and be thrown in the air. It took both Brian and me at the appointment to control him. Wild man!
At the appointment, our pediatrician coined P as a hard baby. I have always said this, and have visited our doctor several times over issues like colic, reflux, constant crying, spitting up, not sleeping, etc. On the sleep front, it seems that some babies are just bad sleepers and we can pretty much put P in that category. We are doing everything right, according to our pediatrician... we have an established bedtime routine at the same time every night, he naps well during the day, he has plenty of food during the day so he isn't hungry at night, we put him down sleepy but awake, and he weighs enough to go 10 hours without waking. So, why does he wake up 2 - 4 times every night crying? We are thinking it's that he just has a hard time falling back asleep when he is going through his sleep cycles. According to our doc, this can last 6 months or 6 years. It seems that we are looking at sleepless nights for a very long time.
While P is a hard baby, there are pluses to this. I like to refer to him as "intense" meaning, he is just so determined to do things. He wants to crawl so badly, and gets frustrated easily because he can't quite yet. Although, he can scoot. He is just a determined little fellow. When I look in his future, I see lots of "I want to do it!" and "I'm not a baby! I'm big!" He is independent for sure.
In other news, he hasn't been too excited about starting rice cereal. The first time he did it, he was interested, but the last few times we have tried, he just doesn't really want it. I don't blame him though, because it looks gross. He makes this face of total disgust and I don't want to force it, so we just stop. We'll keep trying every few days though to see if he changes his mind. I am really looking forward to the world of solid foods though! Also, really looking forward to ending breastfeeding. I am trying to make it to 6 months, but I am looking forward to having some of my freedom and my body back!
Well, that was P's check up in a nutshell. We go back at 6 months for more shots and another weigh in.
